LigPro Natural wood with its many colors, hues and patterns is a cherished gift by nature that is used widely in many everyday products. But along with its charm and beauty, it has an inherent weakness. Wood is a hygroscopic (easily absorbs and retains moisture) material and is composed of mostly cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. Lignin comprises almost 25% of the structure of wood and confers mechanical strength to the cell wall by filling the spaces between cellulose and hemicellulose. Unfortunately, lignin is also the weak link in the system due to its hygroscopic nature which leads to fungal infections, deterioration and eventual rot. This process is further aided by irradiation via exposure to ultraviolet rays.

Wood surfaces are generally protected and enhanced through the use of stains, lacquers and paints. Yet, it is only a matter of time before outdoor wood objects start exhibiting the damage described earlier. The first sign of this breakdown is the change in surface color easily noticed even on woods with a protective clear coating. The change is due to oxidation caused by exposure to UV rays. Softer woods such as pine wood will start showing black spots due to the breakdown and deterioration of the lignin. This is because surface coatings regardless of their features cannot prevent moisture and vapor from permeating into the wood cell structure.

LigPro is a very specialized wood primer that has been developed with the sole purpose of providing a protective barrier for all types of wood. It protects the wood surface from harmful UV rays and prevents the deterioration of the lignin material that is critical in preserving the integrity of the wood. LIGPRO is a fully water based coating with no fumes, odors or hazardous ingredients. It is formulated to seep into the surface of the wood to provide a defensive barrier against environmental damages. It can be topcoated with Liquiguard's SealTuff clear coat or TeakRenu for an oiled teak look without impeding its barrier properties.

LigPro Application

LIGPRO is only eeffective when applied to bare wood. Existing coatings must be sanded o and the natural wood surface must be exposed prior to application of LIGPRO. The coating may be applied by brush, roller (short nap) or low pressure airless spraying. Coverage ranges from 300 sq. ft per gallon to 400 sq. ft. per gallon depending on the density and age of the wood.

One coat is all that is needed. Ensure that all areas of the wood surface have been thoroughly treated. LIGPRO is a fast drying coating and at 77° F and 50% RH (relative humidity) it should be dry to the touch in about 15 minutes or less. The complete dry time may vary based on exact prevailing conditions. Make sure that the target surface is dry prior to application. Do not apply at temperatures below 50°F or above 90°F.

LigPro Cleanup

Clean spills and spatters immediately with soap and warm water. Clean hands and tools immediately after use with soap and warm water. Spray equipment should be thoroughly ushed with plenty of clean water to prevent clogging of the equipment. Rust prevention measures should be applied as necessary.
